A "waterseal" terminal is a form of mil-spec terminal lug used primarily by the Tank and Automotive Command (TACOM) for Vehicular battery and grounding applications. Mil-spec. or military specification electrical cable connectors encompass a wide range of service (Army, Marines, etc.) and style (pin, fork, quick disonneco) classes. Waterseal Terminals are used by the Army and Marines for vehicular termination of battery and grounding cables in tanks, jeeps, trucks, and generators. As a terminal lug, it "crimps" via specialized crimping tool to battery cable and bolts to power or grounding sources. It's "waterseal" characteristic involves a formed shroud at the wire barrel insertion point, which, when crimped with the speciaized crimping tool both compresses the cable stranding to form a pull-out resistant bond, AND, forms a seal between the insulation jacket of the cable and the lug shroud itself.

TACOM released the 7056700 Drawing, Water Seal Terminal Lugs, under mil.spec. MIL-T-7928G, some time after WWII. It was designed to address problems with vehicles that had been transported by sea, in salt-spray intensive environments; because, when those vehicles arrived at theatre destination, they often had to endure major electrical cable replacement due to terminal and wire corrosion. The design incorporated the shrouded barrel for insulation sealing to ensure moisture and salt would not "wick" down the barrel into the cable causing corrosive damage, shorting, and power blockage; it also included zinc-dichromate plating which at the time was deemed the most powerful anti-corrosive plating substance; finally the design's extended barrel allowed for maximum cable pull-out resistance and enhanced conductivity in vehicular battery and grounding applications.

ASK Products has been the sole-supplier of this product line, "waterseal", under Mil Drawing 7056700, in all of its gauges and termination options, since 1952. ASK is an AMERICAN Manufacturer of these products, so purchasers can be confident it will support the Defense Procurement "Buy American" requirements. ASK stocks the full range of these products as well as the related MS20659 mil-spec line and many other mil-spec electrical terminals.
